August 7, 2015

Welcome to "The Payton Rant". It is August 7, 2015. In this edition: *Selling on eBay; *The NFL Deflategate scandal; *The Changing of the Guard In Wrestling SELLING ON EBAY After a long absence, I have started once again selling on eBay. In all my years of being an eBay member, there is one trend I cannot stand. Every time, I turn around, there is a seller with something for sale and is asking a ridiculous price for the item. One example is event tickets. Let's say you want tickets for your favorite college team's first home game of the season. If you look at some of the listings, it is flat out price gouging. They inflate the price so high that only a few people are able to afford it. There is also the other side of it. I will put something on here and have very few bites, if any at all. I do not know if it is the market, the type of item it is, or what it is. However, what I do know is it is better than going to a store that buys back used DVDs. Last weekend, my parents went to one of those stores here. I had given them a bunch of wrestling DVDs to trade in. The clerk said they would give $11.00 cash or a $35.00 credit. Are you kidding? $11.00 for that entire lot? I still think that is absolutely absurd. After hearing that, I think I would at least break even on eBay. I just hope I start getting some bites on my auctions. THE NFL DEFLATEGATE SCANDAL Is it just me or is every NFL fan tired of hearing about the deflating of footballs by New England? I swear, if you hear Tom Brady for five seconds, he comes off sounding like he doesn't think he should be punished for anything. If anything needs deflating in the NFL, it is the egos of the players. There is a group of players who think they are all that plus chips and a coke. It would not hurt if the precious egos of the players got knocked down a peg. What also gets me is how NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is looked at like a dictator by the players. I do not buy that logic. The players are just mad that Mr. Goodell is not letting the NFL become an anarchy without rules. Now, with that said, he has made questionable decisions over the last 18 months in how he has handled certain events within the league. However, I wish the media and the players will remember that he is every bit as human as we are. If he can look at what he has done with some discipline cases in the last 18 months and see his errors, he can tweak it as he goes along. I just wish there was some finality to a molehill that has turned into a mountain. THE STATE OF WRESTLING Over the last couple of months, the world of pro wrestling has taken some hard hits with the deaths of Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper. I have a WWE Network subscription and it saddens just how the guard has changed in 20 years. When I watch WCW, as example, I cannot help to think how sad it is that x performer is now no longer with us. It isn't just one or two. It is several. Most of them are at an early age, too. It just is sad to see. Until next week, thanks for reading!
